The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has took to his Facebook timeline to announce the launch of the Internet.org app in Zambia, Africa. The app is Facebook’s effort in bringing affordable internet access to everyone in the world.
The mobile app, which is launching first to Airtel subscribers in Zambia, allows users to browse a set of health, employment and local information services without data charges. Through the Internet.org app, Airtel customers in Zambia will have basic access to:

- Airtel
- eZeLibrary
- Facts for Life
- Google Search
- Go Zambia Jobs
- Kokoliko
- MAMA (Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action)
- Messenger
- Wikipedia
- WRAPP (Women’s Rights App)
- Zambia uReport
By providing free basic services via the app, Facebook hopes to bring more people online and help them discover valuable services they might not have otherwise.
Mark promised that his team will continue to improve the experience and roll it out to other parts of the world soon.
